Prashant Veer IPL Journey: Record-Breaking Uncapped Star

Hey cricket fans, imagine being a 20-year-old kid from a small town in Uttar Pradesh, grinding through financial hardships, and then boom— you're the joint-highest paid uncapped player in IPL history! That's the incredible story of Prashant Veer, the left-arm spinning all-rounder who just got snapped up by Chennai Super Kings for a whopping ₹14.20 crore at the IPL 2026 mini-auction.
A Kid with Big Dreams in Amethi
Prashant was born in 2005 in a simple house in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. His father Ramendra Tripathi is a Shiksha Mitra (a community teacher), mom Anjana looks after the house. Money was always tight. Like, really tight.
When his grandfather who was the family’s main earning member passed away in 2020, things got even tougher. Prashant was 15-16 and couldn't even afford basic cricket gear. But his childhood coach Rajiv Goel basically adopted him, bought him bats, pads, shoes, paid academy fees, everything. Prashant and his best friend Rakshit Garg (another talented kid who later left cricket after losing both parents) used to cycle 15-20 km one way just to train in Saharanpur.
Early setbacks hit hard too. Prashant missed out on the Uttar Pradesh Under-16 team, but he didn't quit. Under Coach Goel's guidance, he refined his skills—perfecting those cut shots, sweeps, and his clever left-arm orthodox spin. His family backed him every step, emotionally and financially, even when times were rough.

Rising Through the Ranks: Domestic Cricket Breakthroughs
Fast forward to the last 18 months and suddenly this left-arm spinning all-rounder started destroying domestic tournaments.
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
9 wickets in 7 games, economy under 7, plus quick 30-40s down the order.
One knock I’ll never forget
37 off 10 balls against Jammu & Kashmir. Ten balls. Thirty-seven runs.
UP T20 League 2025 for Noida Super Kings
320 runs @ 155 strike rate, 14 sixes, 8 wickets. And he even captained the side a few times.
People started whispering – “This guy bowls like Jadeja and bats like a young Rishabh Pant on steroids.”
CSK quietly called him for trials. He impressed. Big time.

The Auction Day Madness (16th Dec 2025)
Base price: ₹30 lakh. Normal stuff for an uncapped guy, right?
Wrong.
Bidding started slow, then Lucknow jumped in, Mumbai raised, Rajasthan joined, Sunrisers went hard. Within minutes it crossed ₹5 cr… ₹8 cr… ₹10 cr. My jaw was on the floor watching the live stream.
SRH bid ₹14 crore. Everyone thought it was done.
CSK, silent till then, casually raised the paddle: ₹14.20 crore.
Done. Hammer fell. Prashant Veer – the boy who used to borrow kits – just tied the record for the most expensive uncapped player in IPL history (along with Kartik Sharma, who also went to CSK for the same amount).
Back home in Amethi, his mom was crying on the phone, dad was speechless, coach Rajiv Goel was jumping like a kid. The whole mohalla came out to celebrate.

What's Next for Prashant Veer? IPL Stardom Awaits
From cycling to training sessions to rubbing shoulders with IPL legends, Prashant Veer's story is straight out of a Bollywood script. At 20, he's got sthe IPL debut and potentially step into Jadeja's shoes. If his domestic form is anything to go by, expect wickets, sixes, and a whole lot of heart.
